How To Warm Up

A PERFECT VOCAL WARM-UP IN JUST 5 MINUTES!
LEARN MORE
You know you should be warming up...

So that your voice comes across authoritatively during your important meeting. So that you sound tip-top during your audition. So that you carry your whole, authentic self into your presentation.

But you skip it.

It feels like there’s not enough time. You’re not sure what to do. Or maybe you know too many exercises and feel stuck about which to choose.

And when you do warm up,

You second guess that you’re doing the best exercises. You always feel like you should be doing more, and you worry you may be tiring yourself out before you even start your vocal demands for the day.

There’s no one perfect way to warm up.

But there is an intelligence to understanding what your body and voice need on any given day.

When you learn the seven key elements of a complete voice and body warm-up, you can easily get primed and ready for the vocal demands of your day.

And the best part?
You can warm up your body & voice in just 5 minutes.

“Thank you so much! My vocal speech therapist directed me to your videos. So thank you for what you do!

All of your lessons have helped me tremendously after getting vocal nodules a year and a half ago. Now I get muscle tension and am working daily. These have greatly helped me so thank you

Hi! My name is Elissa, and I’m the founder of Voice Body Connection.

I’ve been teaching voice and movement since 2011. I came to this profession out of my own need - when I was 21 years old, I lost my voice due to overuse and abuse. My vocal stamina was shot, and I had to learn how to rebuild both my speaking and singing abilities.

My own healing led me to study many theatre and singing voice methods, as well as yoga & Ayurveda, meditation, anatomy, somatics, Polyvagal Theory, and speech science. Over the years, I’ve become certified in Hatha Yoga (RYT 200), Fitzmaurice Voicework®, and Body-Mind Centering®, and earned an MFA in Theatre Voice Pedagogy. Across my experience in these various disciplines, there’s been a uniting message: Moving our bodies and making sound are two great privileges of being human. Taking time for embodiment and vocalization practices allows us to experience health, joy, and wholeness.

The exercises in How To Warm Up are informed by many disciplines. No matter your profession or way of using your voice, you can benefit from a warm-up!

When you dive into this course, you’ll have access to:

check Clinically-backed practices to improve your vocal health.

check Scientifically studied exercises to regulate your nervous system so you can access the full breadth of your body and voice.

check Easy-to-follow warm-up routines tailored to your unique demands.

check Downloadable PDFs for self-guided practice.

check A portal where you can ask Elissa your questions about warming up and share your experience with others.

Why is it important to warm up?

A warm-up teaches your body how you want it to behave. You might expect to step on stage or turn on your camera and go from zero to 60 in nothing flat. While that may work some days, it’s not likely to most of the time. (Real talk: as we get older we need more time to lubricate the tissues of our body and voice, and I know you know this!)

When you spend 5, 10, or 15 minutes getting your body and voice up to optimum function, you’re much more likely to nail your presentation or feel present while you audition, work, or teach.

Plus! You can use these exercises as a pre-warm-up before other practices, or as a cool-down after intense vocal demands.

“Thank you for this information. I’m new to acting and my coach is constantly telling me to relax my face. This makes so much sense - things you don’t necessarily think about but are so necessary.
